Digital Schools of Distinction

At Drimnagh Castle Primary School, we are committed to providing our pupils with the digital skills they need to thrive in an ever-evolving world. Our school is equipped with 30 iPads and a brand-new set of 30 Google Chromebooks, ensuring that all students have regular access to high-quality devices. Each child is assigned a Google account through Google Workspace for Education, allowing them to work in a safe, secure online environment.

Digital learning is embedded across all class levels, with every child receiving age-appropriate instruction that develops year on year. From the early years, pupils begin by learning basic device navigation and gradually build up to more advanced skills such as word processing, creating presentations, organising files in Google Drive, and collaborating with peers online. They also use creative platforms like Canva to explore graphic design, combining creativity with technology in a fun and educational way. All classrooms are equipped with interactive smartboards, and teachers use digital tools daily to enhance lessons and make learning more engaging and interactive.

As part of our digital learning programme, we place a strong emphasis on internet safety and responsible online behaviour. Students learn how to protect their personal information, recognise cyberbullying, avoid harmful content, and understand the importance of digital footprints. These lessons are revisited and expanded on each year to reflect their growing understanding and maturity. We also teach the boys how to critically evaluate online information, helping them to become discerning and thoughtful digital citizens.

Our aim is to equip all pupils with the knowledge and confidence to navigate the digital world safely and effectively. By the time they leave Drimnagh Castle Primary School, our students are digitally literate and proficient, not only on tablets but also on laptops, giving them a solid foundation for secondary school and beyond.
