We had great fun in Room 7 turning carnations different colours. We love doing science experiments.

First we poured some water into our four containers until they were half full.

We added 10-20 drops of food colouring to each container.  We used green, red and blue food colouring.

We cut the stems of the carnations at an angle.

Then we put a carnation in each container.

We watched the carnations carefully to see if they changed colour.

Our Results:

The stem of the flower “drinks” up the water.

The red food colouring worked the fastest.

The blue food colouring worked the best.

The more drops of food colouring you add the darker the colour becomes.
