13th March 2020,
An announcement was made yesterday morning by the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD of the closure from Friday 13th March, of schools, pre-schools, and further and higher education settings, for a period until 29th March 2020, to support efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19. This is in line with the advice of the National Public Health Emergency Team.
All pupils and students, from pre-school to third level are urged to practice social distancing and to minimise physical contact with each other, to help the spread of Covid-19. This should include minimising social contact, avoid meeting up and keeping physical space between them. Parents and guardians are urged to support their children to maintain this approach.
While The Children Are At Home
Over the course of the next two weeks, there will be many opportunities for the children to engage in meaningful education activities- some on their own, some with brothers and sisters and some with you their parents.
In keeping with advice, we sent home books and learning materials with the children. This will provide opportunities for the children to revise topics already covered in class.
Finally, we are aware this is an unprecedented time of challenge for all of us. We have tried our best to follow the guidelines given to us by the HSE and the staff and children have been fabulous in their response here in Drimnagh Castle Primary School. There will come a day when we will return to school and try to return to some sort of ‘normality’. In the meantime, we must all continue to follow the advice given to us so that by everyone working together we will manage come out the far side of this terrible situation. We will light a candle and say a prayer that this virus will be kept away from our school, community and loved ones.
